10 stars hotel

Already before breakfast in the hotel we were running late but; always take time for what your heart beats for :P :P Took the tram to central station in Nürnberg and we were soon heading to Linz, Austria.

As they always say you should save the best or the last and this was a real 10 stars hotel with dogs included! A beautiful house in nature, huge garden, a lovely pond our dogs used as a swimming pool and above all, a warm welcome by a good friend. There's simply nothing more you would ask for.
Prečudovita hiša v naravi, ogromen vrt, neverjeten ribnik kjer so se psi z veseljem naplavali in povrhu  vsega še topla dobrodošlica dobre prijateljice. Kaj več bi si še lahko želeli?

Sunset chasing!
Sleeping place with a view!
Apart from a long walk, chilling in the garden by the pond and seeing wet tails exploding of happiness, delicious food, long night sleep and best company in the world, we haven't done anything worth mentioning. Oh wait, that's just actually all we want to do in our lives :P

Breakfast time.
Morning walk. Well, a swim.
Next day we left for a long way home to our beautiful Ljubljana which after all the cities we have visited remains the beautifulest. (#english101 #howtoenglish #barewithus)
(: #zokikralj

And happy birthday to little Vi, this whole past week is a birthday present for a dog that loves adventure that much. Never change!

Birthday girlie.
Birthday breakfast! Raw, of course!
Traveling is absolutely the only thing you pay for that makes you richer. Or is it? Lets not forget our dogs! Having a dog makes you the richest. Vicky and Whumie's adventure does certainly not end here. Because every ending means a new beginning. So you better stay tuned for more to come!

Interzoo 2016

Waking up at 4:30 in the morning, taking a tram to Leipzig main station, driving to Nurnberg, taking metro and finally arriving to Interzoo 2016, the biggest pet trade show in the world.
Budilka ob 4:30 zjutraj, nato tramvaj do glavne železniške postaje v Leipzigu, vlak do Nurnberga in na koncu metro do razstavišča, kjer je potekal največji sejem živalske opreme na svetu – Interzoo 2016.

In front of Interzoo.

Oh, we forgot to mention we smuggled the dogs on the train Leipzig-Nurnberg. We actually wanted to buy tickets as always, but were to early and the cashier was closed, so we were supposed to buy them on the train. But we didn't. At least  for once they didn't pay for sleeping under our seats. Don't judge, it was a part of our research! It only confirmed that dogs don't take any place at all or even get noticed. But pssst, don't tell anyone! (:

Walking around the show our dogs were happy to try some raw-feeding based snacks and dog food and got to free their minds running  in the park of Exhibition centre and for the rest of the day played with the whole collection of Planet Dog toys. The purpose of visiting Interzoo was finally meeting the Ruffwear team as well as Planet Dog and Kurgo. All of them are super lovely people who believe in the dog gear they are presenting and selling. They have a reason to, obviously . (: You should check them out!
In prav imajo, zato le poglejte njihovo ponudbo.

Ruffwear!

Seeing some slovenian friends on photos!
We left the show with awesome Ruffwear T-shirts, Vicky and Whumie with new Rufwear Swamp Coolers and Vicky got a Planet Dog Fetch Ball for being a good girl and showing some tricks!

Vicky's famous!

Having fun with Planet Dog toys!
Figuring out what tram to take to get to the hotel wasn't difficult as always, dogs were well accepted, didn't wear muzzles and didn't have to pay extra ticket. Finally getting 4+ hours of sleep was absolutely deserved.

The city of parks and lakes

After the night in Leipzig we were again heading to another meet up with one of our followers. But we forgot that we don't know the city. Can't even it's easy to get lost in Leipzig but we managed without even trying; it was probably a pure result of being tired. In spite of the fact that we went off on the wrong station, walked to the right one and  took the wrong bus, we were pleased with our final destination. That is why the title of this blog could also be: How to beat the distance of 1 km in two hours - with public transport.

Cospudener See is definitely a place to go if you're visiting Leipzig with your dog or alone (You see what we did there (: ). Forrest, number of paths, sandy beach and a huge lake. We even found a dog beach which wasn't at all what you usually see (the most rocky part of every single beach out there…), but a nice sandy coast with a nice and easy access to the water. The dogs had the time of their lives! Nothing beats water fun! We only wish people picked poo after their dogs – it's not a part of the pleasent stay on the beach.
Gozd, neskončno potk, peščena plaža in ogromno jezero.

Due to our spectacular orientational skills we had to reschedule our meeting. We met up in the park closer to the city centre later in the afternoon. We walked through it and enjoyed the beautiful river as well as many many walking paths. Again a great place to walk the dogs and just let them run free.

By the end of the day we got so used to the city that we could find our way to any destination with trams and buses. What surprised us was that for the first time we had to pay extra ticket for the dogs; same price as for children up to 14 years which happened to be 3eur/dog for a daily ticket. A daily ticket for 2 adults was 10.5 eur per day. You can guess dogs didn't get a seat for that price!! Plus, they need to wear a muzzle. Signs are everywhere. (: At least drivers were very kind and people didn't seem to be bothered with dogs around.
Znaki so opazni vsepovsod. Aja, saj so. (:

Sightseeing of the centre is a part of every city we visit. Same as Amsterdam also Leipzig has a central train station a walk away from the city centre. It's one of the cities you would easily find yourself in.

3 countries in one day

Breakfast in Belgium, lunch in Holland, dinner in Germany. (We know what you're thinking…. Is it that obvious? ;P #foodislove #foodislife
Zajtrk v Belgiji, kosilo na Nizozemskem, večerja v Nemčiji. (Veva na kaj ste pomislili... Je tako očitno? ;P #foodislove #foodislife

As you can see our day was pretty busy. Due to that our alarm clock went off 5.30 AM and at 6.30 we were already heading to Brussels central station.

Waiting for train via Amsterdam on Brussels central station.
Once again we boarded on the train and started taking over Europe. Today was Holland's time to shine with it its beautiful Amsterdam also known as city of canals. Unfortunately our time there was limited, so spending time in this fairytale city only lasted for a couple of hours.

Nevertheless it's been enough to get absolutely crazy about the city itself. It has a special vibe and unique tempo. People are generous and all smiles... Finally a place where they weren't widely avoiding dogs but actually wanted to get in touch. We even got to speak to some natives - about dogs, obviously. Moreover Vicky and Whumie were charming people with posing in the middle of the main square. (Result below)
Ljudje so prijazni in nasmejani.

Posing on Dam Square.
Unfortunately the time limit didn't allow us to test the public transport inside the city but at the same time it wasn't even necessary as the main train station is just a walk away from the city centre. We walked a nice circle around the city - of course we didn't carry the heavy backpacks with us - we're definitely too lazy for that! Luckily we could leave them on the train station, safely locked so we  easily walked around Amsterdam. When we came back to pick up our laggage the security guy passed by and said ''Hope you know you're not allowed to put the dogs in there!'' and we seriously answered ''We just took them out, it's over already''. Couldn't tell who laughed more. (:

In comparison with Brussels we were amazed about cleanliness of the train station. Even though it gets passed by over ten thousand people per day it was clean and tidy. The dogs could even sleep on the floor without us panicking what's all the liquid they're laying in. Absolute contrast with Brussels.

This is a good example of a well behaved dogs waiting for the owners to finally choose the nicest looking postcards :P
Time to leave came way too soon. When buying tickets for the dogs for our next destination Leipzig, we were shocked again. The price of the ticket was 62.5eur which is expensive even though the ride was long. On the first train they didn't see the dogs again and when we showed the ''dog tickets'' to the conductor he looked at us all shocked and said ''Dogs? You have dogs?'' as he didn't even notice them calmly sleeping under our seats as always. The situation caught attention of a person sitting next to us so he started looking under our seats and after he finally counted two dogs he looked at us and said: ''But the didn't do any wuff wuff!?''

After 7 hours drive we finally arrived to Leipzig. Time to get some sleep!
Po sedmih urah vožnje smo končno prispeli v Leipzig. Čas za spanje!

Good vibes

Today wasn't so much of ''testing the public transport'' day. We have spent it the way we prefer to spend any day of our lives meaning with good weather and company of positive people and happy dogs.

We're proud to say that today we didn't get lost in Brussels. Not even once! (Forest in the morning walk doesn't count!) Dogs finally got to run and play after two days of mostly city walks. No need to mention they were over the moon about it.
Verjetno ni potrebno omeniti, kako navdušena sta bila.

Walk in Bois de la Cambre.
Later on we took a tram and succesfully switched and travelled to the opposite side of Brussels to meet up with Vicky's family and her breeder, Ann (Doggone Borders). Since we are regularly updating location of our travel, we got quite a couple of messages and in the end met some new friends. Vibes speak louder than the words. We were so lucky to bump into such lovely people based on last minute planning.

Finn, Whumie, Vicky & Lou

New squad!

Furthermore, we had a nice walk in the park where Vicky and Whumie were happily running and playing with 9 more Border Collies and some new friends. On top of that Ann was kind enough to lend us her new camera gear - If you are wondering why all these pictures. (:

Happy lab!
Doggone Borders
Due to living life at fullest, all of us four collapsed in bed right after we got home. With this in mind you might understand why yesterday's blog came out today... (:
(How to slovene at its best. ) (:

Picture in front of Atomium was on our bucketlist!

Life without adventure would be deadly dull indeed.
Življenje brez dogodivščin bi bilo skrajno dolgočasno.

Discovering aka getting lost in Brussels

Monday was supposed to be a chill day to rest our heads, get some sleep and take the dogs for a deserved walk. Well, it didn't go as planned. Go with a flow could totally be our motto today. It was raining, but, they say there's no bad weather, just bad clothing. Packed and off to finding the closest tram.
Ponedeljek je bil prvotno namenjen počitku, nabiranju moči in dolgo zasluženem pasjem sprehodu. ''Go with the flow'' bi prav zagotovo lahko bil najin današnji slogan.

We never checked out if dogs were allowed on any public transports in Brussels but gave it a try.
Now we can asure you, dogs are allowed on tram, bus and metro! A kind driver told us, they should wear a muzzle but only because of the police. If it was for him, he wouldn't bother. :)

Brussels city bus.

If you are looking for an english speaking person you should try checking on bus/tram drivers. And besides, they're super nice and give good tips and advices for lost and confused tourists, hihi!

In spite of a fact that Brussels itself is not a very clean city, we were positively surprised about tidiness of both trams and buses.
Kljub temu, da Bruselj ni eno izmed najbolj čistih mest, pa sva bili prijetno presenečeni nad čistočo in urejenostjo javnih prevoznih sredstev.

The only problem we faced today was that nothing was in English, so when we got lost, we had a hard time getting back or understand why at one point everyone had to go off the bus and wait for the next one to come which made our 'driving in circles' bus trip even more confusing. Also all the instructions for public transport on stations were only in French and Flemish. Yaaaay.
Yaaaay.

And since we are here we just could't miss the famous Waffles from Brussels. :) Like always they were delicious. 😋

No words needed. #pureheaven

In the afternoon we were supposed to meet up with Ms. Bulc infront of European Parlament, but we got so terribly lost with buses. In the end we were picked up by her and got to enjoy some luxus of being an important person with a personal driver. *wink wink*
*wink wink*

We also had a pleasure to meet Jane Collins who is a member of European parlament. She is fighting against animal exporting in abusive ways. What a day!

With European Commissioner for transport, Violeta Bulc.

Brussels is definitely an easy place to get lost, especially if you come from a tiny city like our Ljubljana.

Hitting the rails

First day on the go.
We started our trip in Ljubljana, Slovenia at 7:00. Our first public transport ride was with city bus from our homes to the main train station. As usually we faced no problems as dogs are very well accepted on Ljubljana's city buses. You do not have to pay extra for them, however they do need to wear a muzzle. On the other hand dogs are not welcome on intercity buses. Our question is; WHY? :)
Drugo skrajnosti pa predstavljajo slovenski medkrajevni avtobusi kjer psi niso dovoljeni. Najino vprašanj: ZAKAJ?

Whumie&Vicky on a train from Villach to München 🚈

Buying the tickets we realized how expensive it actually is to travel with a dog. Each of us paid 292 eur for 10day Interrail ticket while dogs got charged 113,6 eur just to get from Ljubljana to Brussels.

So once on board our 14hours, long awaited, trip began. Vicky and Whumie were both sleeping all the way and the only time they crawled out of their hiding places that happened to be deep under our seats, was when we had to switch trains. We transferred three times. First time in Villach, Austria, second time in Munich and third time in Koln, Germany. The staff was very kind to our dogs, no matter what train we were on, they even called them lovely and well behaved. The attitude of people was however changing from country to country. It went all the way from one extreme to another. Some people blinded with their own busy life, rushing around and not caring eather they step on their feet or bump into them with their suitcase, while the others explosively apologizing for barely touching them. It reached its final point in Belgium where we noticed people were widely avoiding dogs or jumping off their seats when we passed by.
Vkrcani na vlak smo našo 14 urno, dolgo pričakovano pot, končno le začeli. Vicky in Whumie sta celotno pot prespala pod najinimi sedeži. Ven sta prilezla le takrat, ko smo morali zamenjati vlak. Prestopali smo trikrat; v Beljaku, Munchenu in Kölnu.

Arriving to Brussels
Once planning a trip with your dog using public transport always note they need a break to stretch their legs, do their business and free their minds running and playing.

After the long day we were all fairly exhausted. The reason why it took us so long is that dogs are not allowed on night or fast (THA) trains. Otherwise we could start our way the day before and arrive to Brussels in the early hours of the next day or at least hours earlier if travelling with THA trains. We confirmed that dogs are not representing any major distraction or thread to anyone, therefore we really don't understand the reason why. Furthermore we don't understand what makes them charged half of the regular human price for the ticked if all they get is a small place in a size of a backpack under your seat. Once the trains are fully occupied it even worseness. All you can get then is a little spot outside the cabins where everyone is passing by and stepping on their paws. Moreover they constantly have to move and give space to passengers going on and off the train, which makes them very nervous as they do not understand what is happening and why they just can't settle down.

Time for some non-train-resting 💤

So, if they are offered nothing more than a tiny spot on the floor, what did we pay for?
Čemu torej taka cena, če v zameno dobijo le majhen prostorček na tleh?
